Pretty Old Bracelet

Pretty little things make me happy. I have never been a big jewelry wearer. I wore a wedding ring when I was married. But bracelets and necklaces not so much. That said, I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with jewelry. I guess my reasoning was always to be modestly adorned or to try and just be adorned with a beautiful spirit. That said, I do love vintage things. Found this the other day. It is in the shop. I may have to wear it once or twice before it sells! You know, to test it out.
Enjoy this day. Lynn

Vintage Flapper and Coin Purses

Good morning!

I just had to share a gorgeous collection of purses I acquired yesterday. They are so lovely!! I was not planning to buy anymore for the shop for a couple of weeks as it is full to the brim with treasures, but who could say no??

Top left is a flapper purse that hangs over the belt. It is made a bit like a sock on each end, with an opening in the fabric to drop coins in. It is closed by pulling the rings down.

Top right is vintage rhinestone purse from Czecho-Slovakia.

Bottom left is a penny purse that pins to clothing.

Top left handmade beaded purse Belgium.

Bottom center sterling.

Bottom right 1920s Mandalian mesh purse.

Top center metal mesh purse with 1911 engraved in front.

Bottom center Whiting and Davis mesh purse.

Top left is a souvenir coin purse with Pittsburgh Expo painted on back.

Are they not beautiful!?

Enjoy The is day!

Suddenly, she loved wooden bowls.

She saw it sitting on the shelf. One dollar. Dry. Dry as an old bone.

"It will come with me and I will soak it in oil."

She Googled and learned what to do to restore and keep a wooden bowl.

The glory of the beautiful wood, cleaned well and soaking up bath after bath of mineral oil!

The universe now knows she loves wooden bowls. Two more put themselves in her way today.

Enjoy this day.

B J Harrison

Dear Peeps,

No, this is not the name of a new pet or a new friend. This is the name of a furniture maker who was in business from the mid-1800s to about 1920. Arkville, New York. They manufactured some amazing folding chairs. I was thrilled to find four of them on my recent trip to see my sister. I honestly do not know a lot about the company, but I am thinking it stayed in business by way of a son from his father. At any rate, these chairs are in great shape and are approaching 100 years old. They are perfect for the shop.

I have planted a few more flowers in front of the shop. I am really looking forward to making more birdbaths. The past few days have been very very spring like. We have had sunshine and warm weather!

A rusted shepherd's hook stands next to the store's steps. (Say that fast 10 times!)

Yesterday we had a sudden and considerable hail storm.

The hail started out small and got bigger over time. It lasted for about 6-7 minutes. Crazy!

I will start sharing recent new inventory! Hope everyone is well. Be thinking of my sweet mama who is in awful pain with her back.

Enjoy this day!

Hats and More Hats

Dear Blog Peeps,

We have 40 more minutes here and it will officially be Thurday. What a long day this has been. Work. Raging storms. A nap after work from sheer exhaustion. A meeting with a tax preparer. A bible study. And here I am. But I love the challenge. The tax meeting was most interesting. I am learning what I need to do to record-keep and thrive. It's such a learning curve.

Hats sell. They just do. No, every person who walks into Sidetracked is not a hat person. But hat people do make their way to Sidetracked, and it is a joyous union!! Here are a few recent finds.

This one was crushed and in need of some reshaping! But oh my it's a beauty!

You have seen this one, on me, but have to share again. This hat is just magical. It's perfect.

Another recent find. An excellent choice for spring!

My sweet sleeping lady (HELP ME NAME HER!!) wears a dark blue straw hat. I say straw, but honestly I don't know what to call it. I need to so some research on this one! Anyone know what to call this crinkly stuff?

In closing, a sweet corner of the shop. A new mirror. A vintage dress. Drying roses. The letters L-Y-N-N sent to me by my sweet sister. My happy place.

Enjoy this day!

Coffee and Chocolate

In case you Peeps are wondering about my morning coffee.

It is a very difficult job, but someone has to work on this bag of Ghiradelli chocolates! I volunteered, knocking everyone else away, shielding them from the danger ahead. There are only a few left in the bag, so I think I have everything under control.

Whew.

The shop was so pretty on Saturday, prepared for Valentine's Day. It was a good day! And speaking of Valentine's Day, my dear sweet friend Jason bought me a baby guitar for the shop for Valentine's Day. It is small enough to carry into the shop and not take up too much space. "Baby" guitar gives the impression of a child's instrument, but many companies now are making baby and mini guitars that have great tone and are perfect for travel for adults.

I tried out a Martin,a Yahama, and a Taylor. It came down to the Taylor and the Yahama. The Martin was set up to play with an amp, and I did not need that. Also, I was not sure how I felt about the thickness of the neck of the Martin. Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised with the tone of the Yahama, and the price was perfect, as far as I was concerned! Not that I think Yamaha is bad by any means. It is just that Jason has a baby Taylor himself, and I already knew how great it sounded, so I had already set the Taylor on a pedestal in my mind, I guess.

I love this little vintage tray. Made in Italy. Currently in the shop.

And these old fabric flowers. Ahhhhh.

Now, some things that have inspired me this morning.

Beautiful altered couture.

Pink.

Good morning!

It has taken me a few days, but I am starting to feel rested again and back to normal after my big weekend with the grandkids. My son and his sweet family are settling in to a new routine with the new baby. She got her first bath after she came home, the old traditional idea of babies needing to be bathed right after birth being no longer the right thing to do.

And then she smiled.

How sweet!! Oh my is there anything sweeter than a newborn baby?!

In other news, there are touches of pink all around the shop in preparation for Valentine's Day. I had considered making a bunch of vintage-looking Valentine cards for the occasion, but that never panned out.

I have added several stacks of vintage linens lately. And I am currently working on a schedule of sales for my shop. The first Saturday of every month will be the Sidetracked Sidewalk Sale. This will help me keep my clothing seasonally current and will keep the shop from turning into a clutter-fest.

Finally, Mars did a big interview recently, focused on local Meowfia activities. That is all I can say about it. He was very brave to step out like that and give his opurrnions.

Enjoy this day!

Hunter Gatherer Vest -- Altered Couture

Dear Friends,

Today I wanted to share a vest that I finished recently. I love the base article of clothing because of its color. It felt to me like a hunting vest. Here it is now with different buttons, and patch after patch of beautiful floral and other fabrics sewn over the vest. I love the skull pocket. I love all the flowers.

This vest has a lot of my thoughts and love stitched into it.

Enjoy this day.
